Lionel Abraham Lincoln Funeral Train with 2 PIECE ADD-ON NEWHeritage Series Lincoln Funeral Train By April 1865, the Union had prevailed over the Confederacy, and the Iron Horse connected towns and cities across the nation and its territories. The Nashville, a 4-4-0 American-type locomotive built by the Cuyahoga Steam Furnace Company during the 1850s, was a stalwart on the Cleveland, Columbus & Cincinnati Railroad. Back in Virginia, the United States was being built by the US Military Railroad as the first presidential car. Ordered in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln was famously scheduled to ride in the car for the first time on April 15, 1865. But the tragedy of April 14 kept Lincoln from that appointment and forever changed American history.After Lincoln was shot at Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC, Secretary of War Edwin Stanton took charge of arranging Lincoln's funeral, and for the body to be transported back to Springfield, Illinois. Though Mary Todd Lincoln, the president's widow, was insisting on a simple and direct burial, Stanton's plan evolved into a national journey involving numerous elaborate ceremonies.On April 21, the remains of the president and his son Willie, who had died in 1863, were placed in the United States for a journey that roughly retraced the inaugural train trip four year earlier. Of the approximately 20 different locomotives that would carry the father and son home over 1600 miles of track, the Nashville, which pulled the funeral consist over the CC&C's rails in Ohio, would become the most famous. eBay Liquidating our original Lionel super-O train layout that the family had in the 1970's. Brought the whole system back to life in the 2000's for my kids with a new layout. Packed it back away by 2010. Now cleaning out the house.Attaching pictures of the layout prior to packing it away. Many, many curve and straight pieces. Some older accessories such as the milk car automatic unloader. 6 automatic switches and 5 manual switches. An entire trestle set with a few bridges. Lot's of original plasticville pieces.Note that the layout DOES NOT INCLUDE any of the rolling stock with the exception of the explicit picture of the Texas Special #1105 (all the other rolling stock has already been claimed). It also DOES NOT INCLUDE the wood platform or the green covering.Note - there are 10 rather large boxes of everything. Due to the cost of shipping and handling (properly re-packing everything for shipping), unfortunately this is only available for local pickup in the Boston MA area. But I am open to a conversation if you are seriously interested in it.Also please note that if you count the straight sections, that are approx. 15-20 less than shown due to a family member taking them to display the rolling stock. Apologies about the possible deception but I am hoping to not unpack all the track and count everything. But if this is important, let me know and I will. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
